Expat360 is a reference site for people building a life in another country — whether that means retiring somewhere warmer, working remotely from somewhere cheaper, or moving for work and income opportunities that do not exist at home.
What we are trying to do
Most information about living abroad falls into two categories. There are the marketing pages, which tell you a place is paradise. And there are the forum threads, which tell you what was true for one person in 2019. Neither is much use when you are trying to work out whether you can actually afford the electricity bill.
We are trying to build the third thing: reference pages that are specific, sourced, dated, and honest about what they do not know. Every country and city we cover follows the same structure — housing, neighborhoods, cost of living, healthcare, getting around, things to do — so that comparing two places is a matter of reading the same page twice.
How we work
- We prefer primary sources. Government agencies, hospitals, utility companies, transport operators and official statistics, rather than aggregated blog posts. Where a figure comes from somewhere weaker, we say so on the page.
- We say when we do not know. If a hospital does not publish its prices or a rule is genuinely unclear, we write that rather than filling the gap with a plausible number.
- We date everything. Prices, tariffs and immigration rules change. Each page carries the month it was last checked, and its sources.
- We publish the trade-offs. Every place has them. A guide that only lists advantages is an advertisement.
Who it is for
Readers come to Expat360 from every direction: North Americans and Europeans looking to retire or work remotely, and people from South and Central America and the Caribbean looking for better work and income. Those are different journeys with different paperwork, and we try to write for all of them rather than assuming one default reader.
Corrections
If something here is wrong, out of date, or does not match your experience on the ground, we want to know. Local knowledge beats a government website more often than either of us would like. Get in touch through our contact page.
Independence
Expat360 carries advertising, and will in time carry a directory of businesses serving expat communities. Neither buys editorial coverage. Advertisers do not see content before it publishes and cannot request changes to it. Where we mention a business, hospital or operator by name, it is because it is relevant, not because it paid to be there. If that ever changes, this paragraph will change with it.
