We publish a place only when we can cover it properly, with every figure sourced and dated. Puerto Morelos is on the list, and this page is a placeholder until then.
Tell us below what you would want it to answer. What readers ask for decides the order we build in.

A fishing village forty minutes down the coast from Cancún that became its own municipality in 2016, and has spent the years since being described by everyone who lives there as the part of the Riviera Maya that has not happened yet.

| Population | 26,921 across the municipality, 2020 census |
| From Cancún | About 40 minutes by road; roughly 20 from the airport |
| The reef | Directly offshore, inside a national marine park |
| Inland | The Ruta de los Cenotes runs west from the highway junction |
Puerto Morelos sits between Cancún and Playa del Carmen and is quieter than either, which is the entire reason people move there. The reef lies close enough to the shore to snorkel from a small boat rather than a day cruise, and the marine park that protects it has also limited what can be built on the water. The town keeps a working port and a square that still functions as one.
It draws a particular kind of resident — often older, often part-year, often people who looked at Playa del Carmen or Tulum first and wanted the coast without the volume. Being twenty minutes from an international airport while feeling an hour from anywhere is an unusual combination, and it is the thing worth testing before anyone commits to it.
